COMMONWEALTH GAMES - AIRSHIPS PART OF SECURITY ARRANGEMENTS
With the approaching Commonwealth Games in October 2010, the Indian Government has decided to go in for an extensive upgrade to the existing surveillance infrastructure. The upgraded surveillance systems would be part of an overall strengthening exercise which will also cover ground forces and measures. This would hopefully deter terrorist groups from launching strikes during the period of the Games.City Airships will be stationed above New Delhi which will transmit images of the entire city. After launching in New Delhi, the airships will also be launched in similarly large Indian cities like Kolkata, Chennai and Bangalore.CCTVs will be used to scan registration plates at all borders of New Delhi for all incoming vehicles. This will also ensure that scanning is done in a traouble-free manner compared to the present system where the police put up barricades and shine torches on drivers and occupants of vehicles. There will aso be large X-Ray machines which will check vehicles for metallic goods.
